Job Opportunities

The Hub for Sensors and Metrology is a £80M project within the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme. As a consortium between the Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Nottingham, Southampton, Strathclyde and Sussex, we aim to accelerate innovation from fundamental quantum science to commercial applications. We harness the quantum properties of cold and thermal atoms and ions to develop the most precise sensors for gravity, magnetic fields, rotation, light and time.

We are closely collaborating with the National Physical Laboratory and industry to explore commercial quantum sensors for breakthrough applications across a broad range of areas including climate, communication, financial trading, healthcare, oil and mineral exploration, sustainable cities and transport. If you would like to be part of this exciting initiative please contact us for opportunities in collaboration or in joining our team in one of the following roles:

Lecturers

We are looking for internationally recognised researchers in the area of cold atomic physics, with specific expertise in quantum sensors or quantum simulators. There is an opportunity to take over existing activities in quantum simulation with Bose-Einstein condensates and to lead optical lattice clock developments located at NPL, London. We are also open to applications in the wider field of quantum technology, including engineering towards applications of quantum sensors and optical clocks.

Postdoctoral and PhD positions

If you are a physicist with a love for technology and keen to create impact by translation of fundamental science into applications, or if you are an engineer excited about exploring new opportunities from fundamental science, then we have opportunities for you. We are looking for outstanding candidates across the fields of Physics and Engineering to join our teams.
