Colleagues from the UK Quantum Technology Hub at the University of Birmingham were pleased to participate in the first ever exhibition showcasing advanced manufacturing, design and innovation from Greater Birmingham and the West Midlands held recently at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Hosted by Neena Gill MEP, with the support of Birmingham City Council and the Greater Birmingham and West Midlands Brussels Office partnership, the exhibition demonstrated how organisations from Birmingham and the West Midlands are working with businesses to drive innovation in the manufacturing industry.

Our exhibit featured a prototype quantum sensor used for measuring gravity and displayed cold atom clouds. During the exhibition we were visited by keynote speakers Commissioner Lord Hill and Chairman Jerzy Buzek.

Speaking of the exhibition titled Greater Birmingham and the West Midlands: A European home of advanced manufacturing and innovation, Neena Gill MEP said: “I’m proud to be hosting this event to show a European audience what we in the West Midlands produce locally, in order to drive jobs, investment, and growth. We’re building on our well-known industrial strengths, but also presenting a fresh perspective of what innovation and manufacturing means for us in 2015 and beyond through these high tech, innovative displays.”
